What a tattoo costs

Size is the biggest factor in price. On Inkjin, most small designs cost €80-€140, medium designs €140-€200 and large designs €220-€350. These are the prices Inkjin artists ask for their designs. Big custom work like sleeves and back pieces costs more and takes several sessions.

Style, detail, color and placement also change the price. Fine detail and realism take longer, and harder spots like the ribs can add time. The tattoo cost guide breaks this down, and tattoo cost in Greece covers local prices. For a quick number for your own idea, use the tattoo price estimator.

Deposits, rates and tips

  • Deposits. Most artists ask for a deposit to hold your date. It usually comes off the final price. See the tattoo deposit guide.
  • Hourly or flat rate. Small designs often have a set price, and large pieces are often charged by the hour. Hourly vs flat rate pricing explains which works out cheaper for you.
  • Tips. 15 to 20% is usual in the US, and 10 to 15% in Europe, where a tip is welcome but not expected. More in how much to tip your tattoo artist.
